Per Fox Sports Midwest Reporter Andy Strickland, the Anaheim Ducks and Rickard Rakell are talking contract extension. It appears the length of term being discussed is around 2-3 years. Rakell is signed through the 2015-16 season and will be a restricted free agent next summer.
The interesting question about Rakell is whether he will play center or wing next season. The Ducks signed Shawn Horcoff and Mike Santorelli. Both will likely play the 3rd and 4th line roles at center. Rakell could likely play right wing on the third or fourth line.
Depending on how the top two lines shake out, Rakell could line up with Jiri Sekac or Andrew Cogliano. There is also the possibility that Patrick Maroon could be bumped down from the top line and be on a line with Rakell. It’s too early to tell what the starting lines will be, but the advantage for the Ducks is they have a loaded line-up with plenty of options for line combinations.
Rakell has played for the Ducks in the last three seasons. In his first full season last year, he had 9 goals and 22 assists for a total of 35 points. The rest of his career stats with Anaheim are listed below.
