The Anaheim Ducks scored early and beat Colorado 3-0. The Ducks improved their preseason record to 4-0-1.

1st Period

The Ducks came out skating fast and hard early to start the game. Just 3:10 into the game Shawn Horcoff would score to give the Ducks the early 1-0 lead.

A few minutes later Mike Santorelli scored with some assistance from Semyon Varlamov.

The Ducks did get one power play chance and did not score. Overall the Ducks dominated the first period outshooting the Avalanche 18-6, taking a 2-0 lead to the locker room.

2nd Period

The Ducks came out strong to start this period. They had a couple of opportunities early in the period, but did not score. The Avalanche started to skate better and had a few good shifts sustaining a forecheck. John Gibson was forced to make a few quality saves in the period to keep Colorado scoreless. Score remained 2-0 at the end of the period. Shots favored Colorado 14 to 8 in this period.

3rd Period

Anton Khudobin started in net for the third period. According to the Ducks John Gibson was dealing with the flu. The teams exchanged chances throughout this period. Colorado tried to make a push in this period. They had two power play opportunities, but could not score. Eventually Carl Hagelin would put the game away with an empty net goal.

Overtime 3-on-3 (Practice)

The teams still played overtime as the league mandated that teams would participate in 3-on-3 five minute sessions regardless of the game score for certain preseason games. The Ducks dominated the play for the beginning of the extra session. Corey Perry drew a penalty and the Ducks had a 4-on-3 power play, but failed to score. Colorado then scored to end the practice overtime session.

Three Stars

1. Shawn Horcoff: He scored the first goal of the game and had chances to get a second one. He had four shots, one hit, and two blocked shots.

2. Hampus Lindholm: He had two assists both on coming on the Ducks first two goals. He also had one hit and three block shots.

3. Carl Hagelin: His speed didn’t disappoint tonight. He was able to get an empty net goal to finish any comeback attempt by Colorado.
