Today the Anaheim Ducks finalized their 23 man roster. The following moves were made:

Reassigned to San Diego:
John Gibson – Goaltender
Nick Ritchie – Left Wing
Joe Piskula – Defenseman
Korbinian Holzer – Defenseman
Chris Mueller – Center

Placed on Injured Reserve:
Nate Thompson – Center
Kenton Helgesen – Left Wing

The maximum number of players allowed on a club’s opening day roster is 23. The Ducks have 21 skaters and two goalies on their opening day roster. The Ducks elected to put Nate Thompson and Kenton Helgesen on injured reserve, which means they do not count toward the number of players on the opening day roster. This move allowed the Ducks to keep Chris Wagner and Josh Manson both on the roster.

Keeping both of these players on the roster is an excellent move by the Ducks. Manson will be the Ducks 7th defenseman, but could compete for a top six spot. He will also give Bruce Boudreau options to rest a defenseman on any given night. Wagner is an added bonus for the Ducks because he can player center and wing, which also provides more options for the Ducks. Both are known for being tough on the ice with Manson’s fighting ability and Wagner’s hard checks.

Congratulations to both of them for making the opening day roster!

Below is the list of the Ducks Forwards (14 total) and Defensemen (7). Followed by this list is the Ducks goaltenders (2 total).

No surprise Frederik Andersen and Anton Khudobin will be the Ducks two goalies.

  1. Great move though if one looks at the play during preseason, I’d open up with Cam & Josh as a pair who looked great out there as the preseason unfolded… If Despres is healthy, have him with Vatman… Sit Stoner as the 7th… his foot speed is more and more non-existent. Hampus & Bieksa looked great, excellent pairing and upgrade. The depth of this team right now is better than it has ever been. It also has team toughness in all areas right out of the gate, mentally and physically.
