Yesterday the Anaheim Ducks announced that Nick Ritchie and Michael Sgarbossa were being called up from San Diego. The Ducks sent Max Friberg and Korbinian Holzer down to San Diego who were waiver exempt.
Chris Wagner was also sent down and had to pass through waivers according to the rules under the CBA. A NHL club can’t waive a guy and then send him down at their convenience. A player who clears waivers does not require waivers again until they’ve spent 30 cumulative days on an NHL roster or played in 10 NHL games since they last cleared waivers. In Wagner’s case, he cleared waivers earlier in the season and has played 11 NHL games so he was no longer waiver exempt.
The Colorado Avalanche claimed Chris Wagner this morning. Wagner appeared in 11 games this season recording zero points. He had +/- of -2 and 17 total penalty minutes.

Josi, it can definitely be frustrating. The 10 game/30 day rule is in place so teams don’t waive a player and then can send them up and down between NHL and minor league teams all season long. Of course this could be avoided if there was no waiver system to begin with.

True true. Its just when you put all that effort into a player (especially one I like) and then you lose them. Reminds me of McGrattan. Got him, lost him, and got him back. Had too pay money, lost him, then pay money again, if I recall correctly.
