Anaheim Ducks’ center Nate Thompson has been suspended by the NHL for 3 games. During the first period of Anaheim’s 5-1 loss to Carolina, Thompson checked Justin Faulk making contact with his head. Thompson was given a 5 minute major penalty and game misconduct.
Thompson doesn’t plan to appeal the decision. He will miss the Ducks next game on Thursday December 17th against Buffalo and the games against the New Jersey Devils and New York Islanders.
Thompson will forfeit $25,806.45 to the Player’s Emergency Assistance Fund according to terms of the collective bargaining agreement. He took the high road when asked about whether or not he agreed with the decision. He is “disappointed” by the decision, but isn’t criticizing the ruling.
Today the Anaheim Ducks placed Anton Khudobin on waivers. Tomorrow morning we will find out if he clears them or not. It appears the Ducks will roll with Frederik Andersen and John Gibson for now. Andersen is a restricted free agent at the end of the season and Gibson is in the final year of his entry level contract.
