Five Ducks Named To World Cup Of Hockey Rosters

The World Cup of Hockey international tournament will be held in Toronto, Canada from Sept. 17-Oct. 1, 2016.

Today five players from the Anaheim Ducks were named to the preliminary rosters. The players are as follows:

Ryan Getzlaf – Team Canada

He won back-to-back gold medals with Canada at the Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia (2014) and Vancouver, Canada (2010). He also helped lead Canada to medal finishes at the 2008 World Championship (silver), 2005 World Junior Championship (gold), and 2004 World Junior Championship (silver).

Ryan Kesler – Team USA

He played for Team USA in the last two Olympic Games and won silver at the 2010 Winter Games in Vancouver. He was also was a member of USA teams at the 2004 World Junior Championship (gold) and 2002 World Under-18 Championship (gold).

Sami Vatanen – Team Finland

He won a bronze medal with Finland at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games. He was Finland’s captain at the 2011 World Junior Championship and 2009 Under 18 World Championship (bronze). He also played in the 2010 World Junior Championship for Team Finland.

Frederik Andersen – Team Europe

He represented Denmark at four consecutive IIHF World Championships from 2009-12.

John Gibson – Team North America

He helped Team USA earn a bronze medal at the 2013 World Championship and gold at the 2011 World Under-18 Championship. He played the back up role during the 2013 World Junior Championship, but helped Team USA win gold.

Interesting to note that Corey Perry was not named to Team Canada, Cam Fowler was not named to Team USA, Rickard Rakell and Hampus Lindholm were both not named to Team Sweden. The preliminary rosters are 16 players. It is possible some or all of them make their respective countries team when the full 23 man rosters are announced.
