The Anaheim Ducks hit the ice today at Honda Center after there short two game road trip. The Ducks did lose both games, but more importantly a few players were injured on the road trip.

Sami Vatanen took an elbow at the end of the first period against Colorado on March 9 and didn’t return. Video of the play: Vatanen gets Elbowed By Mitchell. He also didn’t play in Friday’s game against St. Louis. Kevin Bieksa suffered a lower body injury in the third period against St. Louis and didn’t return. According to Bruce Boudreau, he said both are questionable for tomorrow’s game against the New Jersey Devils. As reported by Eric Stephens of the OC Register, it appears like both won’t play tomorrow and possibly not on Wednesday either. It’s also not clear if Anaheim will call up anyone from San Diego, but if Vatanen is going to be out for a period of time, then it wouldn’t be a bad decision to call up Shea Theodore. The absence of a puck moving defenseman and quarterback to the power play was evident in Anaheim’s last two contests.

In good news, Brandon Pirri was on the ice today at practice for Anaheim. Boudreau said that he could be available to play by Friday, but he isn’t sure if he will get a start before the next road trip. The sooner he is able to play probably means that Nick Ritchie will be sent to San Diego in the near future. The Ducks still have Shawn Horcoff to work back into the lineup as well. Pirri had been dealing with an ankle injury he suffered in the Florida Panthers game against Nashville back on February 13. Click below to watch the video. Warning the video is somewhat graphic.

According to Stephens, Cam Fowler has been cleared from having to wear the shield. He had sustained a fractured nose from Tanner Pearson in the Ducks’ 3-2 victory over the Kings on March 5. The shield had affected his game, most notably in the contest against St. Louis when his passing wasn’t as sharp it normally is.
