Today the Anaheim Ducks re-signed Rickard Rakell to a six-year $22.8 million deal(AAV $3.8). According to Rakell’s agent, Peter Wallen, the contract does not contain a no-movement clause.

Rakell is still in Sweden and had been recovering from a second surgery to correct issues from his appendectomy. According to Wallen, Rakell has fully recovered and begun working out. The timetable for him to play appears to be about one to two weeks. Rakell will also have to obtain a work visa before he can return to Anaheim. Generally, the work visa takes 3-5 days to be granted once the request is submitted.

Emerson Etem Returns To Anaheim

Yesterday the Anaheim Ducks claimed Emerson Etem off waivers from the Vancouver Canucks. Etem played in 112 games for Anaheim(2012-15), registering 31 total points(15 goals and 16 assists). Etem joined the team today in Pittsburgh and could play this weekend. Etem’s contract is worth $775,000. In order to make room on the roster for Etem, Anaheim placed Joseph Cramarossa on waivers yesterday. He cleared them today and has been assigned to the San Diego Gulls.

Salary Cap Issues

Given all the moves this past week, the Ducks have less than $400,000 in salary cap according to generalfanager.com. It appears that talks with Hampus Lindholm are still ongoing according to GM Bob Murray. In order to re-sign Lindholm, the Ducks will need to make at least one move. TSN’s Bob McKenzie thinks Cam Fowler is still a likely candidate to be moved and could be traded to an Eastern Conference team.

Simon Despres Update

During last night’s loss to DallasSimon Despres was injured and didn’t finish the contest. According to Murray, Despres didn’t take a hard hit in the game but will see specialists. It appears he could still be suffering from concussion symptoms.
