The Anaheim Ducks(12-8-5) finish their road trip against the Calgary Flames(12-13-2). The teams met once before this season with the Ducks winning 4-1 in Anaheim.
The Ducks are back in action again today after losing last night 3-2 to the Oilers in overtime. It was a disappointing loss as the Ducks played well in the third period and even had a chance to win the game with a power play in the final moments of the game. The game went to overtime and again the Ducks lost despite having over a minute of power play time to start the extra session. There shouldn’t be too many lineup changes with the back-to-back games. Jonathan Bernier will start in net.
Keys To The Game
The Ducks played a decent game last night with the exception of the special teams. Anaheim was short-handed twice and basically gave up two goals on each attempt. The Oilers scored on the first power play and then scored just after the second one expired. The Ducks also can’t find a way to win in overtime. They had over a minute of power play time to start the overtime last night, but couldn’t get the game-winning goal. Anaheim should do better with their special teams against Calgary. The Flames rank dead last in the power play with only 10.7% efficiency and 28th in penalty killing at 78.0%.
Anaheim Projected Lineup
The Flames are currently in fifth place in the Pacific Division. They are five points behind the front-running San Jose Sharks and three points behind Anaheim. Calgary has won two in a row, beating Toronto 3-0 and outlasting the Minnesota Wild 3-2 in a shootout. Calgary’s leading goal scorers are Michael Frolik, Sean Monahan, and Matthew Tkachuk who each have six goals. Sam Bennett, Troy Brouwer, and John Gaudreau each have five goals. Gaudreau is expected to play despite having surgery on November 16th for his fractured finger.
Keys To The Game
Calgary started the season playing poorly, but the Flames have been playing more consistently going 6-3-1 in their last 10 games. They have a balanced attack in which they can roll three lines that can score at any time. Chad Johnson has also been key to the turnaround. He has won five of his last six starts. His goals-against advantage is 2.05 and his save percentage is .930%. Calgary’s downfall has been special teams as mentioned above, so they need to stay out of the box and play as much 5-on-5 hockey tonight against the Ducks.
