Preview: Ducks vs Senators

By Michael Walters

The Anaheim Ducks(17-12-5) finish their road trip in Ottawa. The Ducks played the Senators once this season winning 5-1 back at Honda Center. Anaheim is currently 2-3-0 on this road trip.

Anaheim Outlook:

The Ducks have had a roller coaster road trip alternating between losses and wins in the five games played. In the latest contest, Anaheim scored first against Montreal and played decently in the opening 20 minutes. After that, it was all Montreal especially in the third when they went on to score three times and win 5-1. The Ducks are in second place in the Pacific Division with 39 points. Rickard Rakell is the scoring leader with 14 goals. Ryan Kesler has scored 12 goals. Andrew Cogliano and Cam Fowler have nine goals. Nick Ritchie and Jakob Silfverberg each have eight goals.

Keys To The Game

Hopefully, the Ducks got some rest after their back-to-back games earlier this week. The Ducks ran out of gas in their contest against the Canadiens and eventually got blown out in the third period. Anaheim needs to figure things out defensively as they have had lapses where they have given up multiple goals in a short time span. Tonight they will have to regroup against an Ottawa team that has won three games in a row. They beat the New Jersey Devils, the New York Islanders, and Chicago Blackhawks scoring 13 goals in those games. This is Anaheim’s final game before the holiday break.

Ottawa Outlook

The Senators are currently riding a three-game winning streak and have been putting goals in the net almost at will. Ottawa is currently 19-11-3 and are sitting in second place in the Atlantic Division. They are 5-3-2 in their last 10 games. Kyle Turris leads the team with 12 goals. Mark Stone has 10 and Mike Hoffman currently has nine.

Keys To The Game

They will look tonight to pepper the Anaheim net and also draw penalties as well. Anaheim’s penalty kill hasn’t been as good lately and the Senators could take advantage if given enough opportunities. Ottawa does average 29.1 shots on net, but they also give up 30.9 on average. If the Senators can jump out to an early lead and limit Anaheim’s shots, then it might be a long night for the Ducks.
