Anaheim Ducks forward Ryan Garbutt has agreed to join the KHL club HC Sochi, the club announced today. He signed a one-year deal with HC Sochi. Garbutt is a pending unrestricted free agent and his contract expires with the Ducks on June 30th, 2017.
Garbutt was traded from Chicago to Anaheim in the middle of the 2015-16 season. He played 37 games that year for Anaheim recording eight total points(5 G + 3 A). He also played in all seven playoff games against Nashville, scoring one goal. This season he played in 27 games, recording three points (2 G + 1 A). He fell out of favor with the coaching staff in Anaheim and was sent down to San Diego in December. He played in 28 games for the Gulls recording 10 points(4 G + 6 A).
Garbutt’s season was done on March 8th, 2017 due to undergoing shoulder surgery. He hasn’t played in a game since February 25th with San Diego. The Gulls just defeated the Reign to advance to the next round of the Calder Cup playoffs.
