The NHL trade deadline is rapidly approaching and there are several players of interest that Bob Murray appears to be targeting this weekend.
According to SportsNet’s Elliotte Friedman, the Ducks are interested in Vanek. He is currently playing for Vancouver for $2 million and will be a UFA at the end of the season. He has played in 61 games and has 41 total points(17 G + 24 A). He could help Anaheim offensively, but he would be a rental unless Bob Murray could sign him beyond this season. He would likely cost a prospect and/or draft pick. It appears that there is interest from Los Angeles and San Jose as well.
TSN’s Bob McKenzie reported that Anaheim, San Jose, and Philadelphia are all looking at Evander Kane. He is currently playing for Buffalo for $5.25 million and will be a UFA at the end of the season. He has played in 61 games and has 40 total points(20 G + 20 A). He is also a player that could help Anaheim offensively, but the cost for him would be high. Buffalo has been reportedly looking for several players in return. To bring Kane to Anaheim would likely cost a roster player, a high draft pick, and/or some prospects.
There was interest by Bob Murray in Ward in the past. He is another UFA with a $3.2 million salary. He has 11 total points(5 G + 6 A) in 46 games in San Jose. The Sharks have made it known that he is available. He would be another rental player at a lower cost of maybe only a draft pick. His lower offensive numbers and the fact he is on a divisional opponent, however, makes him a less likely desirable choice for Anaheim.
Canadian Olympic Team
NHL analyst Billy Jaffe mentioned that a member of the Canadian Olympic Ice Hockey team could sign with Anaheim. This is an interesting scenario because there are some former Ducks on that team in Mason Raymond and Rene Bourque, which likely wouldn’t be of interest to Murray. Chris Kelly is a name that has come up since the news broke earlier this earning. Kelly currently plays for the Belleville Senators of the American Hockey League (AHL) under a professional tryout agreement. He could be a cheap depth signing forward if Murray was to pick him up. Keep on an eye on Derek Roy and Wojtek Wolski as well. They are both left wingers out of Europe that Murray could bring in at a low cost as well.
