The Anaheim Ducks(31-21-11) return home to play the Edmonton Oilers(26-31-4). The game starts at 5:00 PM PT and will be on Prime Ticket locally and AM 830.

Anaheim Outlook:

The Ducks have to get ready for Edmonton as they just lost to the Arizona Coyotes last night 2-0. Anaheim looked lifeless for most of the game not being able to generate much offense. They played solid defense and maybe if not for a weird early goal by Arizona, then the game might have gone to overtime. This is the last game before the trade deadline tomorrow and the Ducks won’t play again March 2nd, so a maximum effort is needed.

The Ducks did make one move today. Bob Murray signed forward Chris Kelly who played on the Olympic Canadian ice hockey team. Kelly was playing for the Belleville Senators of the American Hockey League (AHL) under a professional tryout agreement. He will likely play in San Diego with the loss of Eric Fehr. According to TSN’s Bob McKenzie, the deal will be $1.25 million prorated for the rest of the season with bonuses.

Keys To The Game

The Ducks need to get back to forechecking by setting up screens and crashing the net. Too many of the shots against Arizona came from the perimeter or poor scoring angles. Anaheim’s defense has stepped up their game in the past week. The offense needs to rebound tonight.

Anaheim’s Projected Lineup:

Rickard Rakell – Ryan Getzlaf – Corey Perry
Andrew CoglianoRyan Kesler – Jakob Silfverberg
Nick Ritchie – Adam Henrique – Ondrej Kase
Chris Wagner – Antoine Vermette – J.T. Brown

Cam Fowler  – Brandon Montour
Hampus Lindholm –  Francois Beauchemin
Marcus Pettersson – Josh Manson

Ryan Miller, 8-4-5, GAA 2.63, SV% .918 (Probable)

Edmonton Outlook:

The Edmonton Oilers have faded away in the playoff race as they are 17 points out of the wild-card spot. They have gone 3-7-0 in their last 10 games. They did win last night against Los Angeles after a potential game-tying goal was reversed for goalie interference. Connor McDavid leads the team with 27 goals and Leon Draisaitl has 19.

The Oilers did make a three-way trade involving Mark Letestu. Edmonton received Pontus Aberg from Nashville. The Predators then sent Letestu to Columbus for a 2018 4th round pick.

Keys To The Game

The Oilers played last night like the Ducks did, so if Edmonton can get a jump early on the Anaheim then they could win this game. They have averaged just over three goals in their last four games and that might be the total they need to get a win tonight. Edmonton does need to avoid the penalty box as they have the worst penalty kill in the league at 72.9%.
