Pat Verbeek will be the Anaheim Ducks next General Manager per source. The Ducks should make an official announcement tomorrow.

He started his NHL career with the New Jersey Devils in 1982 and spent seven seasons with them. He also played five and a half seasons in Hartford, four seasons in Dallas, two in Detroit, and one and a half season with the New York Rangers. His final NHL season was with Dallas in 2002.

Pat Verbeek played in 1424 career NHL games recording 1062 total points(522 G + 540 A). He won the Stanley Cup in 1999 with the Dallas Stars. During his career his nickname was the “Little Ball of Hate” by Glenn Healy in 1995. Fellow teammate Ray Ferraro was known as the “Big Ball of Hate.” He is the only NHL player to score 500 goals and have 2500+ penalty minutes.

After retirement he became a part-time color analyst for the Detroit Red Wings. In September of 2006, he became a scout for Detroit and did that for four years until leaving to Tampa Bay.

In June of 2010, he was hired by the Lightning as he director of professional scouting. In July of 2011 he was promoted to assistant general manager overseeing the scouting operations, player procurement, and was the right man to the General Manager Steve Yzerman.

In May of 2019, Verbeek was named an assistant manager for the Detroit Red Wings. He has been overseeing the AHL Grand Rapids Griffins, player personnel decisions, and has also been working on building up the analytics department for the organization.

With the GM selection out of the way, the Ducks can now focus on the trade deadline. They need to figure out what they are going to do with Hampus Lindholm, Josh Manson, and Rickard Rakell as all three are unrestricted free agents at the end of this season.

Verbeek brings a wealth of knowledge as a player and as an assistant GM in Tampa Bay and Detroit. He also isn’t shy about using analytics to evaluate his players and team. The question will be whether Martin Madden, David Nonis, and Jeff Solomon will stay with the organization since they were not selected.
